Olympic athlete in 20km race walking
The athlete from Huelva Laura García-Caro is, despite her youth, one of the greatest references of the race walking in our country, a discipline that has traditionally given a lot of successes to Spanish athletics.
Born in 1995, she began shining in the different distances in which she competed from young categories, being international for the first time as U20, to settle now in the 20km race walk, a specialty in which she has already been sixth at the Europen Champonships (Berlin 2018) and ninth at the World Championships (London 2017).
She has also reached three times the podium of the European Race Walking Cup, one of the most prestigious competitions of the continent in this discipline, getting the bronze medal in 2017 and 2021, and the silver medal in 2019.
In addition, Laura received in 2019 the bronze medal of the European U23 Championships, held in Tallinn four years earlier, because of the doping disqualification of the Russian María Ponomariova, winner of that event.
She trains in Madrid with the coach José Antonio Quintana and competed in Tokyo at her first Olympic Games.
