Roberto Alaiz

The long-distance runner from León is one of the most iconic athletes in Spain. His versatility has allowed him to be international with the Spanish team in different events, from 3000 meters (7th at the European Indoor Championships in 2013 and 2nd at the European Team Championships in 2015), to 5000m (5th at the European Outdoor Championships in Zurich 2014) and 10,000m (5th at the European Cup in 2015), in addition to 3000m steeplechase in which he was 5th at the European U23 Championships and participated two-time at the World Championships (Moscow 2013 and Beijing 2015). Moreover, he has competed in several European Cross Country Championships, achieving his best performance in Hyères 2015 where he was 7th.

In 2016, he began a long ordeal of injuries that stopped his progression. He had to undergo surgery three times on the Achilles tendons and was out of competition for more than four years, until in 2020, in an example of almost unprecedented resilience in elite sport, he has returned to the top level and is once again among the best athletes in the country.
