Rubén Leonardo

Rubén Leonardo, born in Valladolid, began practicing athletics when he was only 7 years old, dragged along by his brother Marco, three years older, whom their parents enrolled in the “Mayte Martínez” Athletics School, directed by the award-winning former athlete, and later ending up at Racing Valladolid, moment in which both put themselves in the hands of their current coach: José Augusto Herguedas.

In the U16 category he began to opt for long-distance events in which he was beginning to stand out, although a growth injury called Osgood-Schlatter kept him blank for a year.

After overcoming this, and already as U18, he specialized in steeplechase, in the distance of 2000 meters still in this category, achieving the national bronze in 2021, year in which he also won the silver medal at the Spanish CSD Cross Country Championship. In 2022 he achieved his first Spanish national title, in the 3000m steeplechase, and reached the final at the World U20 Championships in Cali.
