International athlete in 3000m steeplechase
The Puerto Rican athlete Víctor Ortiz-Rivera, from the town of Barranquitas, is a specialist in 3000-meter steeplechase, in which he has been international at the U18 and U20 World Championships, as well as in the Pan-American U20 and NACAC U23 Championships.
During his time at the University of Arizona (USA), where he studied a degree in Psychology, he coincided with world middle-distance legend Bernard Lagat, who became his current coach.
At the end of 2021 he moved to Barcelona to continue his studies and his sports career in Spain, supervised from that moment on by another athletics guru: “professor” José Luis López. Since then, he has achieved the Puerto Rican national indoor record in 3000 meters, leaving it for the moment in 7:54.10, while he waits for the moment to transfer his extraordinary recent progression to the steeplechase races to aspire to participate at the major international events, especially the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
