International 110m hurdles athlete
The Spanish-Cuban hurdler Yidiel Contreras began practicing athletics when he was 11 years old and at 15 he entered the Cuban National School, where he had the opportunity to train with top athletes as the Olympic champions Dayron Robles or Anier García, under the command of the legendary Cuban coach Santiago Antúnez.
At age 19 he left Cuba and, after a brief stint in Belgium and Italy, arrived in Madrid to train with Alexis Sánchez, former hurdles athlete also Spanish-Cuban, with whom he began his professional athletics career.
Later, he spent time in France training with the best hurdles specialists from the neighboring country, such as Pascal Martinot-Lagarde or Wilhem Belocian, to later return to the command of Antúnez, with whom he has been training again in recent years, living between Spain and the town of Formia, in Italy.
He has currently settled in Mallorca, where he continues to receive the guides from Antúnez in the distance but under the supervision of Juan Alberto Quiñones, who was the coach of the Olympic javelin champion Osleidys Menéndez.
